Research Policy

Enabling Research with Strong Foundations

Guru Kashi University aims at research and innovation and takes various initiatives for quality research to contribute to social wellbeing and nation building. Since the University is located in the rural area of south west Punjab and adjoins to states of Haryana and Rajasthan in south, it provides a conducive environment for conducting research activities and enhancing research outputs focusing on the problems of rural masses. Therefore, this research policy looks forward to exploring new ideas, innovations and promotion of research ecosystem and ensures to undertake quality research within the legal framework. The guidelines and provisions shall demonstrate a continuous commitment for maintenance of academic standards and quality of research.

Academic Research

All eligible faculties shall register for doctoral program within six months of their appointment.

Faculty of each department shall conduct research in the current areas of specialization.

Faculty publications in Web of Science, SCOPUS or UGC Care indexed journals are appreciated with appropriate incentives.

All publications and research papers of faculty must undergo plagiarism checks before submission.

As per UGC approved API norms, the University has fixed the number of articles to be published by faculty of different cadres.

Term papers of graduation, post-graduation and doctorate projects shall be research focused.

Every project shall lead to at least one research publication in a journal indexed in Web of Science, SCOPUS or UGC Care.

Guru Kashi University promotes admission of post-doctoral fellows in focused areas of research.

Institutional/ Intramural Research

  • It will be mandatory for every doctorate faculty to submit a minimum of one funded project.
  • Every faculty shall have at least one institutional project in his/her areas of research. The required seed money for internal projects will be provided by the University.
  • The University shall provide the basic infrastructure required to conduct either internal funded or external funded research.
  • All departments shall strive for recognition by national/international agencies through schemes/funding such as DST-FIST, SAP, CAS, etc.
  • Faculties are encouraged to identify inter-disciplinary research in their chosen field of research.
  • The faculty of all departments of the University shall tie-up with industries and corporate bodies to undertake funded research in emerging areas and industry relevant areas.
  • All innovative projects of faculty are earmarked for filing patents on successful completion and suitable recognition & remuneration is given to that faculty with patents.

Responsibility Of Faculty Involved In Research

  • The faculty members shall be committed towards Ph.D. students and work in the research projects.
  • All faculty members shall review the output of the researchers working under their mentorship.
  • Faculty members shall encourage research opportunities for the members of the research group, such as attending special training courses or workshops.
  • Faculty members shall ensure that the research protocols are approved for the use of human and animal subjects by Institutional Ethical Committees as per standard guidelines.
  • Faculty shall be responsible for completion of guidance work of their scholars.

Research Seed Money

  • The general principle governing the allocation of all research funding in the Guru Kashi University is to enhance the research outcome from faculty, scientists and research scholars.
  • Proposals for allocation of IRF for research shall be finalized in the Research Council for approval by the competent bodies/authority.
  • The funds for institutional research shall be exclusively used for promotion of research in whatever manner possible with due approval of the competent authority.
  • Different departments and Research Centres of Guru Kashi University will be allocated research grants as per their requirements and such requirements will be assessed through a process of inviting requisition from various departments/ Centres by the Dean Research.
  • The proposals for research seed money in prescribed proforma shall be evaluated by RSM Grant Committee for funding for two years.
  • The faculty shall submit Utilization Certificate to the Accounts Section and detailed project completion report to Dean (Research) or equivalent for issuing project completion report.

Research Fellowship

A research fellow shall be appointed in two categories:

With JRF

The JRF qualified candidate shall be offered fellowship of Rs. 30,000/- month and will registered for Ph.D. along with teaching of her/his discipline.

With only NET

The NET qualified candidate shall be offered fellowship of Rs. 22,000/- month.

Extramural Grants

  • Eminent and enterprising professionals from the industry are invited to take up joint resource projects with the university faculty on collaborative mode.
  • The faculty of the university is encouraged to select social and area specific problems to conduct research and provide feasible solutions.
  • The University shall organize research programmes relevant to a community, society outside University campus from time to time.
  • The university faculty shall visit at least one village in the neighborhood, investigate the problems, find solutions and implement.
  • Students are encouraged to participate in the extension and outreach programmes organized by the University.
  • The university shall conduct programmes aimed at developing trade skills.
  • The faculty of GKU is permitted to act as resource persons in the events such as workshops and conferences conducted outside GKU premises.
  • GKU encourages its senior faculty to train industry personnel.
  • The university faculties are permitted to work in other educational institutions as part of faculty exchange programme.

Support For Research

  • All applications for any external research funding are to be routed through the office of Dean Research.
  • All the research projects or any other research contract by an external party is administered by the office of Dean Research.
  • Faculty and other researchers are required to comply with the management of externally funded research, consultancy and other contracts in accordance with the prescribed guidelines, norms and procedures.

Project Transfer

  • If principal investigator leaves the university, and a project funded by an external agency is to be moved to another institution as per the agreement with the funding agency subject to the consent from the university and the concerned authority of the institution where it is to be transferred.
  • However, for completed projects the equipment and other facilities generated at the university utilizing the project fund shall not be transferred.

Centre Of Excellence In Research

Guru Kashi University focuses on multidisciplinary research. It has extensive network of researchers, staff and students working across disciplines to extend the boundaries of knowledge. The University shall develop Centres for Excellence in the frontier areas of research which shall be open to faculty, students and industry persons to conduct research. The frontier areas of research shall include:

The Centres shall work with a mission to promote interdisciplinary and applied research of benefit to the University and global Society. The Centres of Excellence in Research shall have the following key role:

  • To maintain an institutional repute for innovation and reorient research and training relevant to industrial and social needs.
  • To translate research into best practices.
  • Efforts will be made to undertake problem solving research in identified priority areas.
