Department of Performing Arts

Established in 2024, the Department of Performing Arts at Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda, functions under the Faculty of Visual and Performing Arts. It is a vibrant hub for musical excellence, cultural preservation, and artistic innovation.

The department is committed to nurturing the musical abilities of students through rigorous training across both traditional and contemporary forms of Indian music.

Our curriculum is thoughtfully crafted to provide comprehensive education in Hindustani Classical Vocal, Instrumental Music, Sufi Music, and Gurmat Sangeet. This is complemented by theoretical studies in musicology, composition, and performance analysis. Emphasizing both academic and practical learning, our programs foster creativity, discipline, and cultural awareness.

Vision

  • The Department aspires to become a distinguished center for the preservation, promotion, and innovation of Hindustani Classical Vocal traditions, Punjabi Folk Music, Sufi music, and instrumental mastery—especially Tabla. Our vision is to nurture a new generation of musicians who blend artistic brilliance with deep cultural understanding. Rooted in the spiritual and cultural heritage of Punjab and the Indian subcontinent, we aim to be a leading platform for soulful expression, academic research, and intercultural musical exchange.

Mission

We are dedicated to creating a culturally immersive and academically rigorous environment that fosters excellence in performance, pedagogy, and research. Our programs place strong emphasis on:
  • Indian Classical Vocal
  • Punjabi Folk and Sufi Music
  • Tabla and other Indian Classical Instruments

Through a curriculum that integrates the traditional Guru-Shishya Parampara with contemporary academic frameworks, we aim to:

  • Preserve and promote regional and classical musical traditions
  • Provide experiential training through performance, masterclasses, and workshops
  • Encourage musicological research and community engagement
  • Empower students to emerge as accomplished musicians, educators, and cultural custodians
